Historically important springs in the San Rafael Valley have become infested with invasive blackberry, displacing rare cienega-loving plants like the Canelo Hills Ladies' Tresses and Huachuca Water-umbel. These springs also host rare fish, amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates and have been a key stopover for migrating mammals.
